Conference proposes fund to fight illiteracy

A Unesco conference in Doha on 14 March proposed the setting up of a Regional Fund to combat illiteracy which affects 60 millions of inhabitants of the Arab world.
The Conference urged Arab Leaders to combat illiteracy in a region ?people don?t know how to read and write.
6.5 millions children are not in school?.

Basic education needs $6bn a year in the Arab World, which according to UN figures has an overall population of almost 300mn people, said Omani Mussa bin Jaffar bin Hassan of the UN?s cultural body.

Koichiro Matsuura, Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, told reporters that Yemen, Sudan and Mauritania were the countries most in need of help to fight illiteracy.

?Illiteracy in the Arab world is a disgrace,? said Mongi Bousnina, Head of the Arab League Education, Science and Culture Organisation (Alesco). ? AFP

Nowadays a lnumber of Intellectuals, Academics, Researchers, Consultants... work hard to help improving Arab Women's conditions and also other Muslim Women Worldwide. Solutions to improve the conditions of Women should start with alleviating poverty and providing these Women with access to the correct financial resources so that they can improve their knowledge, gain a better understanding of their human rights and improve their social lives and future." Loads have to be done to integrate Women in the Society cose too often they are not fully integrated and denied the place and status they should have.
