I know Not Who I am
Bulleh! I know Not Who I am
Not a believer inside the mosque, am I
Nor a pagan disciple of false rites
Not the pure amongst the impure
Neither Moses, nor the Pharoh
Bulleh! I know Not Who I am
Not in the holy Vedas, am I
Nor in opium, neither in wine
Not in the drunkard`s craze
Niether awake, nor in a sleeping daze
Bulleh! I know Not Who I am
In happiness nor in sorrow, am I
Neither clean, nor a filthy mire
Not from water, nor from earth
Neither fire, nor from air, is my birth
Bulleh! I know Not Who I am
Not an Arab, nor Lahori
Neither Hindi, nor Nagauri
Hindu, Turk (Muslim), nor Peshawari
Nor do I live in Nadaun
Bulleh! I know Not Who I am
Secrets of religion, I have not known
From Adam and Eve, I am not born
I am not the name I assume
Not in stillness, nor on the move
Bulleh! I know Not Who I am
I am the first, I am the last
None other, have I ever known
I am the wisest of them all
Bulleh! do I stand alone?
Bulleh! I know Not Who I am
**Read and adored for centuries, sung and translated by thousands, this is my favorite kafi by Bulleh Shah. 1680- 1758. Please share yours.

I've lost all count of form;
I laid my bed in the public park
And went to sleep in my lover's arms.
I am broken, I am bent,
Tell him how I am pining for him;
My disheveled hair, with the tying band in my hand,
Feel not embarrassed, do go and tell him oh messenger!
Whatever the US govt. does is only for its own interest.
By the way have you people heard of the latest conspiracy theory about US govt. wanting to promote Sufi form of Islam as it is non-violent and would be effective to deal with Jihadis.
Last year a National Sufi Council was formed in Pakistan with Pervez Musharraf as its Patron, hehe.
Her rug-e mun taar gushta haajut-e zoonnaar neest;
Uz sir-e baaleen-e mun ber khez aey naadaan t'beeb
Dard mand-e ishq ra daroo bajuz deedaar neest;
Nakhuda dar kashti-e maagar nabashad go mubaash
Makhuda daareem mara nakhuda darkaar neest;
Khalq mi goyad ki Khusrau boot parusti me koonud
Aarey aarey me koonum ba khalq mara kaar neest.

I am a pagan and a worshipper of love: the creed (of Muslims) I do not need;
Every vein of mine has become taunt like a wire,
the (Brahman?s) girdle I do not need.
Leave from my bedside, you ignorant physician!
The only cure for the patient of love is the sight of the beloved ?
other than this no medicine does he need.
If there be no pilot in our boat, let there be none:
We have god in our midst: the sea we do not need.
The people of the world say that Khusrau worships idols.
So he does, so he does; the people he does not need,
the world he does not need.

Translation:
My beloved's brilliant visage I saw everywhere;
My beloved's beauty I saw In every form and every face.
Not a single wilderness I saw bereft of my beloved;
Every street and bazaar I saw contained my beloved's presence.
When I looked at myself, I saw that it was my beloved;
My own visage I saw as the beauty of my beloved.
I saw the pious praying Below the arch, against the pulpit,
But the lovers I saw prayed on the gallows.
Just a droplet of wine from my beloved was my portion, 0' Hafiz,
And I saw all wisdom, all reason disabled entirely.
