I Don't Get It

Okay I don't get this,

I just started working a year ago and my boss has started picking on me a lot. Now I figure that since we're both desi we would have some kind of understanding as to respect each other at least! Has anyone ever had any problems with praying at work? Has anyone ever had problems with having a desi boss being a desi or not? I don't get as to why I'm being picked on or targetted by my boss...

Has anyone here ever been a targetted by their boss when you know ur a productive hardworking person and all they do is pull you into meetings over any reason they can find wrong with you and constantly ask you for proof of your work? Now i'm in a dept where we all have the same tasks and although I've seen myself that I do just as well as everyone else, i'm the only one who has been targetted as a bad worker...

Does anyone know what the best approach for this is or do I need to be more specific?

Someone plzz give me some clue as to why muslim people attack each other like this???????

Salam alaikum..

madcherry - u've got the corporate world right on the dot! i was working for a financial corporate company - and everything is so cold and calculated, u're basically just a number in their system, no matter how much u try - at the end of the day, it's whatever's good for business!
on the surface they try and maintain the employee respect cr*p - but management and HR actually work together and whatever they say goes, u're just a number.
mobati - seems like u're being scapegoated - they honestly don't care about ur work or u, apparently they just want u out no matter what reason it is. it's their word against urs. (sorry for being harsh! but it's not u, it's just their system, ITS THEM!) just take the severance package and leave.
(i didn't know u can't use 'cr*p' on here!!)

mobati, welcome to the big bad world of corporations. for future reference:

trust no one
confide in no one
do not express your opinions on anything
take no side

at the end of this if you can still function, you'll be a success :)

Salam MadCherry,

Well basically my boss wouldn't give me any specifics, just that some people had come up to him and complained that I had an attitude problem. They wouldn't let me tell my side of the story, they just basically wanted me to plead guilty and send me to rehab...(try to figure out what my problem was)...
Considering that everyone around me had an attitude problem and was dumping their work on my desk and giving me a hard time, I had no choice but to defend myself and my work...and when I refused to do their work they considered it an 'attitude problem'. I had no idea that my colleagues would stoop so low as to complain about me to management, when they have had the same complaints I've had about management all along. So here I am getting stabbed in the back without a reason why....
And it still continues...

did the warning highlight any issues?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your comments and advice. I have actually taken the situation to HR a few weeks back..but then as things started returning to normal I was thinking about ditching the claim, until my boss came back from Pakistan and the meetings started again. I was given a 'verbal warning' about my attitude. Now even my colleagues have turned on me. I guess i'm the most easiest target because I wear hijab?
I would hate to think that a muslim boss has turned on me because he knows that he could..but what else could I think, i'm the only one in the whole company who wears hijab!
Anyways, the matter has been escalated and I believe that Najamuddin bhai has the right idea, they are trying to get me fired, and considering it's my first real job, it's gonna be really tough to find another one and start over again...I mean a lot of good people have quit since I started...and people are still quiting....something has to be done I suppose!
Thanks again for everyone's support and advice!
Salam alaikum

stand up for yourself - maybe ur boss is just being a bully - and don't let that happen - let him/her know that u are aware of what's happening, of course in the most diplomatic manner - but be strong about it - and if ur boss isn't embarassed when confronted and doesnt fix her/his behavior - try HR they're usually receptive (HR rules are strictly that everyone has a right to a respectable working environment) - if not then u're worth better than that, get a better job! (easier said that done but it's a last resort!)
i've been in a similar situation, not with a boss but with a co-worker, and i understand how miserable it can be. but i went to HR and the matter was resolved :)
good luck!

I would start looking to see if there is another job out there for you, since it is not good if you start getting pulled into meetings for criticism; especially, if the criticism is not warranted and your are not in a unionized environment.

Looks like your boss is gathering information for documentation so he/she has ammunition to get you dismissed/fired out of your organization.

You can try taking up this matter with management; especially, with your boss's boss or human resources, but remember they are going to prefer siding with your boss more than you.

Try arranging a meeting with your boss to find out what is going on in terms of understanding what is expected of you and your performance.

in my experience, one's work ethic has little to do with what your boss thinks of you....
