Houston Memories...
I used to work for Enron in London (where I am now) but stayed for a few months in Houston over the course of the late 90s and have some very fond memories...
My best memories:
1) Favourite hotel, Omni Houston, Riverway, sucha abeautiful settign and so well kept. Very beautiful, and AMAZING views of downtown over Memorial Park of downtown (from 11th floor).
2) Favourite Pizza, California Pizza Kitchen Uptown, or the Sicilian Pizza place near Barnes & Noble opposite Galleria I
3) Favorite gumbo: Ragin Cajin' the shop with lobster on the front
4) Food - it's just so good and cheap in Houston, was eating out all the time.
5) Novelty item: neon light in the shape of the state of Texas from Lights Unlimited.
6) Driving - I so enjoyed my driving trips out of Houston to Galveston and coming back at night... driving at night to rock music with the windows down and feeling the humidity was an amazing experience
7) Truly spectacular 21st century downtown skyline, especially driving past it at night on the motorways that cut through downtown.
8) Favourite apartment complex: The Rincon, Dunlavy.
9) Feeding bread to ducks and squirrels of Herman Park, and attracting many hundreds!
10) The hardest thing I ever did was leave Enron (& consequently my Houston connection) - 1 year before the collapse, but turned out to be the right thing to do...
11) The beautiful new houses in Sugarlands with big (huge) gardens.
12) Winning a blue Elmo Sesame Street soft toy from the Grab machine in Rice Epicurean or Randalls - first time!
More to follow.... :)
