Hoss: Government violates constitution, sovereignty

More remarks about the course taken by government to deal with the international tribunal.

The media office of Lebanese former Prime Minister Salim Hoss, who is also the Secretary General of the National Unity Forum, issued remarks on the bill of international character to try suspects in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

The statement said that the bill trespasses national sovereignty and confiscates the authority of the legislature and the President of the Republic to pardon. According to the statement, this requires a constitutional amendment to draw limits for making exceptions.

The National Unity Forum proposed that the tribunal be given the same authority and power of Lebanon's Justice Council. It said that the government violated the constitution, sovereignty and coexistence by taking the tribunal bill to the United Nations on the one hand and disabling the Lebanese judicial system on the other.
