Hezbollah Stresses Consensus President
Hezbollah has dismissed the idea of electing the country's president through half plus one vote procedure. Speaking to Al-Alam TV Channel in Beirut, member of the Loyalty to the resistance parliamentary bloc MP Hussein Al-Haj Hassan said the half plus one procedure is worse than political vacuum in Lebanon.
He warned the February 14 bloc to stay away from clinching to stupid strategies, stressing that the president of Lebanon should be elected through consensus of all political parties. Al-Haj Hassan reiterated the movement stance with regard to the list of candidates the Maronite patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir has presented, saying that Hezbollah position has not changed.
"If all parties agree on one candidate, Hezbollah would also endorse him, therefore we wait until Nov. 21 which the president is scheduled to be elected", Al-haj Hassan said.
He said that there is no problem how many names are presented, but it is important to agree on one name, because if there was no consensus, the election fails to succeed.

He stressed the opposition's view that the president of Lebanon should be elected by consensus and "the would-be president should vow to choose his cabinet from both opposition and pro-government parties".
