With Hundreds of Thousands of people displaced from their homes, thousands of firefighters battling multiple fires to the point of exhaustion and thousands of homes and structures still in danger, now is the time to try and help our fellow brothers and sisters. In response to and in consultation with the area leadership, Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi, the Chairman of the Shura Council is calling for a special congregational prayer for relief from the raging fire and rain to end the drought. The prayers will be held at ISOC between 6:30 and 7:30 pm on Thursday the 25th of October.
The Shura Council is also requesting all Khateebs to dedicate the Friday sermons for this purpose.
All community members are requested to participate and keep praying for relief from the fire and for the rain.

1 Million People Affected By Raging Fires in Southern California
For the third consecutive day, wildfires are scorching through thousands of acres in Southern California, forcing more than a million people to evacuate their homes.
From San Diego County to north Los Angeles County, 13 fires have burned simultaneously at times. Wildfires have burned across nearly 600 square miles, killing two people, destroying more than 1,300 homes and prompting one of the biggest evacuations in California history.

By late Tuesday, fires had consumed well over 1000 homes and commercial structures, with the authorities reporting that 68,500 homes remain threatened. At least 500,000 people were estimated to have evacuated and thousands more had been ordered to move. The authorities said fire fighters were overwhelmed as new blazes sparked and existing ones thrashed in new direction, impeding efforts to focus energy and resources. More than 640 square miles in seven counties had bee consumed by some 16 fires, flames fueled by high desert winds and hot temperatures that remained largely impervious to air attacks, garden hoses, fire retardant or prayers for relief.

Donations Needed for Wildfire Evacuees at QUALCOMM Stadium!
Brothers and Sisters there are thousands of evacuees that are in need of our immediate assistance at Qualcolm Stadium and other centers throughout San Diego County. Logan Islamic Community Center will accept donations for the evacuees tomorrow, Tuesday, October 23rd from 9:ooam to 4:00pm. If you have any of the items listed below please drop them off at the LICC. The most needed are blankets, pillows, and hygiene supplies, but anything you can give is much appreciated. & #61514;

. Blankets/pillows/bed mats
. Cots
. Tents
. Water
. Personal hygiene products: mouth wash, body soap, toothbrushes, feminine products, diapers, toiletries.
NON-PERISHBLE FOOD: (food that can not be refrigerated) Canned foods, snacks; protein/breakfast/granola bars, crackers, peanut butter, boxed juices, dry milk.

CAIR asks people of all faiths to join nationwide spiritual effort
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/23/2007) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today called on mosques and other houses of worship across the nation to offer prayers for rain to help put out wildfires currently raging in California.

CAIR urged American mosques to offer special Islamic prayers, called Salatul Istisqa (sal-AT-al-istis-KA), which the Prophet Muhammad traditionally offered during times of drought.
In Salatul Istisqa, the Prophet would offer supplications such as: "O God, give us rain that will replenish us, abundant, fertilizing and profitable, not injurious. Grant it now without delay...Send down rain upon us and make it a source of strength and satisfaction...O God, give us a saving rain, good and productive, general and heavy, now and not later, beneficial and not harmful."
The Quran, Islam's revealed text, states: "O my people! Seek forgiveness of your Lord and turn to Him in repentance. He will send you from the sky abundant rain." (Quran, 11:52)
"Americans of all faiths need to offer spiritual assistance to the courageous firefighters who are battling these deadly fires," said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad.
Awad also asked mosques in wildfire areas to offer shelter to fire victims and that financial aid for victims be sent to the American Red Cross.
