Greece Pledges Jobs, Funds for Muslims
After 25 years of neglect, the Greek Government is vowing to address the hardships of disgruntled Muslims in its northeast in a charm offensive cautiously received by the long-forgotten minority, The daily Kathimerini reported on Tuesday February 6.
"We have one exclusive goal ? the extension and consolidation of the Civil Rights and Equality before the law of the Muslim Minority of Thrace," Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis said during a tour of the Northern Region Monday 5 February 2007.
She promised the region's 100,000 Muslims to tackle their marginalization in society.
