Gov't passes bill mandating open access to NIH-funded research via PubMed Central


President Bush signed into law HR 2764 in which section 217 mandates that all NIH-funded research must be made freely available to the public via PubMed Central within 12 months.

Imtiyaz: I agree...it is good that the article are being accessble in developing countries. to get access to medical articles and journals in developing countries is tough, and alhamdullilah there is a pro-bono work for physicians in regards to the accessibility of the articles.

there is so much out there nowadays. I read a few years ago that breast cancer was the leading cause of death in women, but now...heart attacks is the #1 leading cause of deaths in women today.

I totally agree. It is much harder for those in developing countries to get access to articles. I know a medical library group that does pro-bono work for physcians in developing countries to obtain articles they don't have access to.

Thats a great news, but it would have been even better if these manuscripts were freely available from the outset in the developing countries.
