Gordon Brown Picks First Muslim Minister

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has named Muslim Labour MP Shahid Malik as a minister at the Department for International Aid and Development, joining a diverse cabinet of young secretaries and ministers of different backgrounds.

Malik is the first Muslim Minister in British history.

Malik, a 39-year-old MP for Dewsbury, was the first Muslim to be elected to the House of Commons for the Labour party in 2005.

He is an "integration activist," encouraging Muslims to juggle between their Muslim identity and British values.

best of luck to Malik... will be interesting to see what he stands for and what he does ... he is in a difficult position to keep the party line and at the same time do what he believes is right ...
