A Smile, a Kind Word is giving Charity
Salams all of You,
Many of us know that a large number of people in the world do not have their basic needs fulfilled. By basic needs, I mean things like sufficient food, water, adequate shelter, stability, safety, security, acceptance, and enough education to feel hope for the future. Not having even one of these basic needs met gives one enough reason to cry.
I don't only think about people in India, Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma...and other countries... but I also think about people living in " developed, westernised... countries" as being the ones who also lose out on their basic needs for their children such as love, attention, affection, education, respect... There are many people in developed countries whose families do not make them feel loved and accepted. Those people are rejected and are often vulnerable Children, Women, Elderly, Pensioneers... who do not enjoy love, stability or safety within their family's cell.
Life is not perfect. We might all wish and dream for perfection in ourselves and in life, but it is the touch of imperfection that makes people and life perfect.
What do money, a good word and removing something harmful have in common?
It is easy to give money as charity when one is wealthy, but the best charity is given when One Fears Poverty, Homelessness, for one must then sincerely trust in Allah?s reward.
Even a Smile to someone, a Kind Word (written or said) are considered as Charity.
Giving Charity is such an important part of Islam that even the Arabic word "tasaddaqa" (to give charity) comes from the root sadaqa meaning to Speak the Truth, to Be Sincere. Sadaqah (voluntary charity) is different from Zakah, the compulsory Alms that are collected every year.
A Muslim shows his Sincerity of Faith and will attain Piety by being Generous: (Aal `Imran 3:92)
There are dozens of verses in the Qur?an in which Allah (God) tells Muslims to Give in Charity. Sometimes this charity is in expiation for a wrongdoing, and other times it is an acknowledgment that everything one ?owns? is in fact a trust from Allah and that anything spent in the way of Allah will be paid back in full and multiplied.
Muslims are enjoined to Give Charity without reproach to the recipient. It is also better for them to give discreetly rather than openly, so that their intention is entirely to gain the pleasure of Allah and not to gain the admiration of people.
(Al-Baqarah 2:263 ? 64).
The people who really think about the world, the needy, the elderly, the vulnerable, the orphan... what do they do? It is Simple. They Give. They Give Back to the world what was not necessarily given to them. They give to people who do not comprehend their pain and hollowness inside. They wipe away the tears of another person or another child. In doing so, their own tears will melt away into Smiles and Newborn Hopes. On one hand a number of Muslims provide financial support to a child, family living abroad or in the same country than theirs. On the other, a number of Muslims will adopt a child.
A living legend ? an example of devotion ? an inspiration ? an institution - these are some of the indicators of a Pioneer called Abdul Sattar Edhi. www.contactpakistan.com
