Here is one www.nch.com.au of Sound Editing Software you might want to try,It called Wavepad, its INCREDIBLY GREAT for developing Listening SKILLS, www.nch.com.au (the only drawback i found was that it opens the browser to its own website one time only every time when you close the software,at first I suspected spyware at first but apparently i had no other popup problems in my computer,i don't want to scare you but use this www.nch.com.au sound editor at your own risk,if you don't trust this one find another sound editor)

if you have a sound file, and you need to focus on a specific part of the speech, what you do is,you select the part you want to hear and keep repeating it.
(WARNING: Don't save the changes once you have cut out specific part of the speech unless you want to save it by another name,because if you save it, it will overwrite over the same file)
