Frank and Friendly, even with the bad.


Aishah (ra) narrated that a man asked permission to see the Prophet (saw) and the Prophet (saw) said, "He is a bad member of the tribe." When he entered, Allah?s Messenger (saw) treated him in a frank and friendly way and spoke to him. When he departed, Aisha (ra) said, "Messenger of Allah! When he asked permission, you said: "He is a bad member of the tribe; but when he entered, you treated him in a frank and friendly way." Allah?s Messenger (saw) replied, "Aisha! Allah does not like the one who is unseemly and lewd in his language." (Abu Dawud 4774)

I think this Hadith shows us that we should work hard to deal with our prejudices (even if they are sometimes well founded) and to deal with the matter in hand without complicating matters further. Also, there is no harm in telling the truth to protect ourselves and others when the truth is known, especially when asked about the character of a person or to warn someone from someone's bad character. It also shows us that despite everything everyone deserves common courtesy and a measure of respect and a good muslim should always show this in their manner of speaking or communicating. Indeed Allah does not like bad language and it is the bad that use such language.
