The head of the Marada Party, former minister Suleiman Franjieh and former President Amine Gemayel held a meeting late on Monday in eastern Beirut. Both leaders issued a joint statement stressing the stature of presidency is the most prominent constitutional position for the Christians, through which they can contribute efficiently in the country. Their statement added that "what's left of the president's authorities after the Taef Accord, can only be practiced by a popular president who's capable and committed to Lebanon's freedom, sovereignty, independence and most importantly a president who would preserve Lebanon's factors of strength. Franjieh and Gemayel said in their statement that the electoral law has been creating an obsession of existence for Christians. "What's required today from Christian leaders regardless of their political position, is to go forward to endorse a new electoral law that would secure the proper representation of the people. Both leaders reiterated their support to Bkirki and Speaker Nabih Berri's initiative. They also agreed to expand their meetings for the interest of the Maronite confession and the country as a whole.
