FPM: MPs Aoun and Hariri meet in Paris
The Free Patriotic Movement of MP General Michel Aoun said Wednesday that a meeting in Paris between Aoun and the head of the Future parliamentary bloc MP Saad Hariri has taken place. The FPM statement said that the meeting was held free from any media pressure and in a secure environment.
Prior to the meeting, Hariri held a meeting with US Under-Secretary of State David Welch while Aoun met with Frence's special envoy Jean-Claude Cousseran.
Meanwhile, France said it will not interfere in the talks between the two rival poles. French Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Pascal Andriani said that Paris backs all efforts to push forward dialogue between top Lebanese political players, so as to reach consensus on a future president of the republic within the constitutional time limit and according to constitutional principles. "Despite this, France is not part of the talks between Hariri and Aoun," said Andriani. She did not say whether the two leaders would contact French authorities. "We will announce any contact in case it was made," Andriani said.
