Fountainhead by Ayn Rand


Who has read this book and what do you think of it?

I am reading it now and I can't put it down. It's 700 pages and I wish it were 1700 pages. It's suprisingly one of the best pieces of literary fiction I have ever read.

aha ! no need to sit through hours and hours of another never-ending ayn rand classic ! atlas shrugged is being made into a movie, angelina jolie to star !

You missed an awesome book..however everyone has diff. tastes and this book just may not suit yours.

It's okay! Just accept it :)

I normally read 50 pages of a book and if it does not grab me by then, I stop. Life is too short and there are just too many books to read. I stopped reading this book at page 20, but having read the reviews below(from Dimples and Intelligence), I'm starting to feel that i missed something special

Effie forget about the end, i'm telling you now I LOVE THIS BOOK!! it actually tops my list and will be above Kite Runner (Shocking) :)

Intelligence and Sftab m so glad you guys liked it too...I can't believe I liked this book, as the summary is quite dry. I love the characters, writting style and the plot.
If any of you read Atlas Shrugged please let me know it's as good as this book.

I read this a few years back and it's amongst a relatively short list of my most favourite books. I relished every page too and did not want it to finish, I even questioned what I'd do once I'd come to the end, a fear gripped me. What if I could not find a book as enjoyable to read after this one? But how to read a book you cannot put down slowly? I think this would appeal to anyone who has some sort of burning passion within them. Howard Roark's passion came from his idealism. I was enthralled by the whole genre of architecture as presented in this book. At the time I was studying art and architecture and this made such a refreshing release from the other interesting books because it described what drives someone to do what they do. The old character that Roark gets an internship reminded me completely of Le Corbusier who was a visionary in his time too, experimenting with bold shapes and new materials. Another thing, I still can't believe such a book was written in the 1940s, it's really stood the test of time.

wanted to read atlas shrugged as well, however it might take another 25 years to build up to stamina and motivation to do so :>

it was a great book, read it last summer ... managed to persevere and finish it, however couldn't understand why it took 700 pages to tell the story ! :>

i think it was mainly b/c i read it at a very interrupted pace..i dont remember why i quit..tell me how you like it by the end of it...i'll wait for your recommendation before i pick it up again

I am on about 200. Why did you quit?? I can't put this book down. But then again everyone has different tastes.

i quit around pg 200 ish... what page are you on now..perhaps i shouldve soldiered on?
