Fouad Saniora's letter to the United Nations requesting a ratification of the tribunal of international character to try suspects in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was the main theme in Tuesday's Bazaar at Parliament. The ninth week of this bazaar however exposed the ruling bloc which frankly expressed its subordination to the outside, by beseeching a UN Security Council resolution to endorse the tribunal under chapter seven of the UN Charter, regardless of Lebanese national accord.
Deputy House Speaker Farid Mekari lashed out at the opposition accusing it of seeking to cripple the tribunal and the capital Beirut, which according to him is envied by "our two neighbors", signaling Syria and Israel! . "The Lebanese know who brought destruction to their homes and to the country's infrastructure," Mekari read in the February 14 statement.
The opposition was resolute in refusing the ruling bloc's collusion with foreign powers to impose American guardianship on Lebanon through the gates of the UN Security Council. Hezbollah MP Ali Ammar said that the tribunal was not an object of disagreement between the Lebanese.
