Fatah al-Islam Denies claim to Beirut Bombs
A Fatah al-Islam spokesman said on Tuesday his militant group had nothing to do with two Beirut bombings for which a statement in the group's name had earlier claimed responsibility.
"We have no link to the attacks in Ashrafiyeh and (Verdun)," Abu Salim, Fatah al-Islam's spokesman, told Reuters referring to the eastern and western districts in Beirut where the attacks took place on Sunday and Monday, killing one.
A Fatah al-Islam statement faxed to Reuters said the group had carried out the bombings.
"As the fighting rages against the Lebanese army in the area of the Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr Al-Bared, a group of heroic mujahedeen?has planted and blown up two explosive charges in the heart of Beirut," it said in a statement.
"We have warned the Lebanese army, and we have now fulfilled our promise, and we will enflame the heart of Beirut again," it warned, after two blasts rocked Beirut.

The explosion happened at around 11:00 p.m. local time (20:00 GMT). Splinters of the car and broken glasses from shattered windows were scattered everywhere within 100 meters of the blast. The blast also caused fire in one floor of a nearby resident building. Fire and smoke were seen billowing from the windows. At least 10 people were reportedly injured in the blast. Ambulances and fire engines soon arrived, putting out the fire before the police cordon off the scene.
