Bj, so true, religion should be taught with love and affection (most of the time) ;)
Unfortunately in Pakistan, most religious teachers are very strict. Our Arabic language teacher in our school was a Sabri Sahib (may Allah bless his soul). He was from inner city Peshawar (hindko speaker) and man he was strict. Have you ever heard of someone being lifted from their sideburns? Well Sabri Sahib used to do that. Now the fun part is that our school was not some public school, its among the top schools in Peshawar but for some reason religious teachers are given more slack then others.
LOLZzzzzzzzz UTJ thats such a common thing among molvis in Pakistan.. throws pen at students and they have to pick it up and give it back to him.. have gone through that soooooo many timez. LOLzzz
I serious hope he is not (Inshallah). You know I really hate people like that who force the deen on others. That dogma backfires because when they are out of your hands they rebel like anything. There is one dude who I work with whose parents forced the deen on him. Now that he has left home, he gave up salah, fasting, and drinks/clubs/etc.
the two finger slap, the open hand, the back hand, the drop kick, the knuckle to the head, the rose garden, the murgha (chicken), the corner on one foot, the face in the corner...
your Qari sahib did all that? Man talk about child abuse. I hope he still not teaching!
I dont think there is anything wrong with a little disipline, but i think they take it way to far in pakistan. My little nephews were in pakistan for 2 years and they witnessed a little boy get beaten really bad that they were to scared to go back.
One relative of mine--her teacher hit her so bad she bled and so many times i have seen bruises on kids--the parents just accepts this. Like you TJ, some dare smack my kid i'll kill him.
besides all that, I read this book about rasing kids and when you study the psycology of kids you realize that sever disipline is actually not the best way to raise kids
Especially when you study the character of our prophet (S) Just see how he was with kids
Shafie khana, sareea charta ghaib we, pata de na lagee.
Nice observation. My purpose of posting this was to point out how religion is used as business in our culture. Also, I have noticed that most traditional religious schools in Pakistan have this culture of beating the cr@p out of children and it is actually accepted by the society in general. I presonally had a teacher by the name "Chabak Rawan" who was from Paktia, and man he was strict but luckily I didn't go to that masjid for long..lol
I personally would stay away from "prophetic invocations" It's best to get dhickers from authentic sources which back up EVERY dhicker with it's hadith reference. With this, if anybody is looking for dhicker, read the chapter on Dhicker in Sahih Muslim, or Fortress of the Muslim (Hisnul-Muslim) .
Actually sura Bakrah talk about magic--you should read the tafsir.
btw--the book i think is one of the best for dhickers is called "prophetic invocations"After 3 years of being out of print, this popular title is now available.
Truper Khan... this guy is not a Pir... Actually he was running a Madrassa/Drug rehabilitation center, although the way he was running it, is questionable..But still, he was doing it for free.. most of the people there were brought or froced by their own families/parents/brothers... Western media knows, how to take off our Purtoog....
I'm sure you guys know, how big the Drug problem is in our country. it is literaly destroying families and lives.
Once you are hooked on herion, you will not hesitate to sell your %^*)))__=-== to get your high.... The reason, we see these men in chains... i agree that is not the right way to rehabilitate, but c'mon, you are dealing with Paki druggies...
ALLAH save us from this evil....
If you recite the entire surah bakarah in your home, shaytan can never enter it. there are other authentic dhickers that I know, but I'll post them later Inshallah.
I remember part of a hadess that if you want to be safe from Jadoo then recite part of Surah-Al-Bakara everyday. May be you guys can elaborate a little more.
For a HIGHLY detailed book (written by a western MD) on Jinn and magic read, "The Jinn and Human Sickness". You can get it from Dar-Us-Salaam. It's a very good read Mashallah and has helped a buddy of mine who is suffering from major confirmed jadoo. And Talib Jaan wror, that whole Surah Jinn and 40 day thing is BS. Further in shariah, anybody who claims to be in touch with the Jinn or is in reality in touch with them is a fasik (evildoer). There is NO halaal way to get in touch with Jinn. EVERY way involves some type of kufr.
lol so I was googling this and I thought of posting some messages from online pirs, mursheds and their mureeds.

Bushra, I know what ziarat you are talking about. I think the proper name is "Attack Hazarat Jee Baba". Thanks to some female members of my family, been to this mazar a few times. Although, I must admit that most people including myself go there for picnic because of Abaseen river down below and the beutiful location.
The other ziarat that I have been to is the "Shakhtapoor Baba" in Manki Sharif (Nowshera). Again, an excellent place for a picnic and honestly thats what most people go for. The place is in the middle of rugged hills with water falls and streams. The drive from ziarat back to main road is one of the most memorable rides because of how the road curls around the mountains.
Also been to "Data Ganj Bakhsh" while on a university tour to Lahore. The place was absolutely jam packed with tens of thousands of people.
TJ, I have heard about these things and actually I was really into getting knowledge of controlling jinns but eventually I decided that I was too faint hearted to try something like that. lol
Also, love that story of you going to a pir, looks like u have done it all seen it all. TJ, my cool pushtun brother, I hope to grow up to be like him someday. :)
Obviously jinns are very real. In every village there is always a person who is supposed to control jinns. We had a member of very family, who was a Hafiz and very pious and was said to have jinns under his control. Supposedly he had them qaid (confined) in a kooza (kind of a jug).

in PUnjab they celebrate urs in many places, which I never understood. I never heard of anything like this from Pushtoons.
I know persians believe that Hadhrat Ali (R) is buried in Mazar e Shareef, and a lot of ppl go there to get their problems solved.

As for communicating with jinns--its real. If you want to know more about it i really reccommend you read the book "Al-Jinn" by Ahmad Sakr.
