Evening Parades at Marine Barracks (June 22, 2007)

UPDATE (06/17/07)

Send me an email, if you are still interested in watching the parade.

We have a total of 20 seats for the 06/22 parade (They are now fully booked for the rest of the summer). The latest, we can show up for reserved seats is 8.00 PM. Otherwise, you have to wait in the general admission line. Parade starts at 8.45 PM and lasts for 75 minutes. www.mbw.usmc.mil

I visited the parade grounds last Friday to get an idea about the area. First of all, it is very close the East Market (Orange/Blue) metro station; 3 blocks only. Many restaurants in the area. I do not know about the parking, since I did not drive.

We can grab some food either before or after the parade, if folks so desire. If nothing else, a Dunking Donuts is close to the metro station.

===============================

Hi Folks:

So far, I have only watched the parade on TV, and it is quite impressive. More info at: www.mbw.usmc.mil

I would suggest that we make reservations for 06/22, which is the longest day of the year anyway. Grab some chow beforehand, and then head out to see the parade.

Email me, if you are interested. I would try to get us 06/22, but that is not available, then be prepared for 06/29.

Here is the information about reservations:

==================
How To Make Parade Reservations

Seating for the Evening Parade generally requires a reservation. Parade reservations can be requested online by accessing the Parade Reservations page (requires email). Written (or faxed) reservation requests are appropriate for groups 11 or more. Telephonic reservations are not accepted. View a map of the parade grounds.

The request should include the name of the party (either group or individual); the number of guests in the party; a complete return address; and a point of contact with a telephone number. An alternate parade date should be include in the request in case the first date requested is unavailable. Confirmations for reservation requests and tickets will be sent by return mail. There are no public parking spaces available at the Barracks.

Guests with reservations are admitted beginning at 7:15 p.m., and should arrive no later than 8 p.m. At approximately 8:15 p.m., guests without reservations who are waiting outside the main gate of the Barracks are offered unclaimed seats

Last update here: When you do get to the barracks, you can go to any gate, mention my name (Abbasi). You will be directed to the area/gate where everyone will sit. So, even if I missed you, you can still get inside. Just remember to be there before 8.00 PM.

I did note that people were very nicely dressed, especially the marines in their dress blues.

Your bags etc. will be checked as part of the security at the check-in.

Folks: The powers-to-be informed me that my request for 10 tickets has been okayed. That's for 06/22 parade. Let me know if I should reserve one for you. If there is more than enough interest, then I would ask for additional tickets.

Block that time now since you were not planning to do anything that evening anyway!! Don't worry; this is not a military recruitment event!!!

K: Thanks. I thought that the parade was scheduled only for summer. Hopefully more people will show interest in this event.
