We'll support all the dictators in the world as long as they are our allies, but the minute they turn on us, they are committing human rights violations, and their people deserve democracy, and if these newly established democratic governments elect the "wrong" people, atleast in the u.s's eyes, democracy isnt the answer anymore. Vigilante, I hope you can agree with me, that no matter how much someone has harmed people, there should be still respect to their death. we are not barbaric for feeling bad for someone who suffered this way. Barbaric are the people that are walking around happy that he was put through such a disgrace of a trial and hanging because of revenge. We are all humans, and God is all forgiving. NO ONE should have to hear how they will go to hell right before they are executed. Even in the U.S. when someone is about to be executed a priest comes in and reads verses with them to calm them down. He wasnt even given that privelage. Its 7aram. This is not an arab supporting saddam speaking. This is humanity speaking.

I agree! This ruined Eid for me too briefly however. I didn't dwell on it too much unless someone mentioned it. But Eid should never be interrupted by gloom or death! Disturbing!

late breaking news - according to what i just heard on NPR in an interview with Iraq's security minister...

- saddam was cussed and yelled at before he got hung, Iraqi government is outraged (that it was tapped, not that he was cussed at)

-Iraqi government is actively rooting out these dangerous criminals who tapped it, they have 1 in custody and know of at least two more (not those who cussed him, rather those who leaked it, and by rooting out, i'll assume they are torturing these poor bastards)


-whaddaya know, sunni and shia are at it again.


- the iraqi government officials (including security minister ) where searched no less than six times to insure no recording devices where in the chamber, their cell phones where removed, this treatment apparently did not extend to the other people in the room, only the iraqi official government was searched.

- the security minister SAW someone tapping the incident, but does not/did not have the authority to confiscate the Cell phone, or otherwise stop it.

Innocent or not, he wasnt given a fair trial. They had no right to kill him like that. It is quite sad really, I still cant believe it.

When I saw the breaking news headline about Saddam Hussein's execution Friday evening, I too was sickened. Sickened and horrified that Eid would be taken over by gloom. The Iraqis endured enough and on what was to be a joyous occasion was overshadowed by what I can imagine to be reflections and memories of sadness and anger.

This execution was carried out in haste as was the trial and the appeal. As this was backed by the American government, it should follow suit with its own court system. Why do we still have death row inmates waiting years to be executed here? Looks like Iraqis will still have to be fearful of their own government. They too could face execution even when innocent. Not that I believe Saddam was innocent, but Iraqis still aren't better off with this execution.

i am still sickened by that even 2 days after and i think that i will be for some days...conversations this week were always at the end focused on Saddam Hussein and his execution... I swear that i felt sorry for his victims and their families, i was always reminding his supporters within my family about what he has done...but i will never accept such end!!!

anyway, he became a shaheed...
