Solo female in egypt ? Not recommended. Yes most places you'll go to will be tourist spots - but still its not Sharm-al-sheikh.

Cairo and the Pyramids at Giza - You can spend about a days here at best and the Cairo museum is no picnic without a guide (just to get you in the door). Its a zoo.

Luxor is a bit more tame.
Start at Karnak - you can do this yourself - no guide needed. Do the night tour.
I rather recommend this.
Valley of Kings and Valley of Queens - you need a driver and a guide.
Additionally - any guides you get - get them from your hotel. Don't do the local taxi and hit the desert.

Your enjoyment mileage will vary depending on your love for history. If you aren't much of a history buff, you've seen one mummy, you've seen them all. You've seen one tomb, you've seen them all. History tickles your fancy and you know who's who - you're in heaven.
You're afflicted with indiana jones syndrome, pack a bottle of water and drop into a remote Pyramid.

I went into Tut's tomb with a camera at midnight after bribing local guards (highly not recommended).

Remember to keep lots and lots of small bills with you for baksheesh. Starting in morocco, the tip and almost begging for it culture doesn't end until you hit the gulf. Sad but a hundred years of servitude seems to have transformed the culture. The Bedu are the only ones i developed real respect for. If you can get a couple of male friends to go, hit the Sinai desert in a jeep with a local bedu guide. Dont go without a guide. Same things towards Alexandria and Qatara. Thats where Monty stood up to the Desert Fox - el Alamein. Lots of land mines litter the desert. I did this by horseback from cairo (not recommended if you arent a hard core rider and can endure 8 hours in a saddle).
