Dubai-Karachi ferry service launched
Karachi has been placed on the world sea cruise map with the launch of its first ever liner, a Dubai-Karachi ferry service, declared President General Pervez Musharraf Saturday.
Pakistan is blessed with a unique landscape, the loftiest mountains, vast plains, deserts, coastlines, a rich cultural heritage, ancient civilizations and is a cradle of different religions; Karachiites must visit the northern areas and the people from the North must see the coastal lines, he
said while addressing a gathering of diplomats, senior officials, leading businessmen, bankers onboard the Gulf Dream Cruise Liner at the Karachi Port.
First Lady Begum Sehba Musharraf, Governor Ishratul Ebad, Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Ports and Shipping Minister Babar Ghauri were present on the launch.
The president noted that more than 500 destinations are covered by sea cruise operators and Karachi has now been added to that list. He asked KPT to provide more facilities to attract more cruise operators. He noted that more has to be done in the form of port infrastructure, passenger services, amenities to facilitate cruise operations.
?Pakistanis themselves must travel to see their own tourist attractions. Then foreign tourists will come,? President Musharraf said.
