do you love thy city DC?
Salaamz. As I'm graduating fellowship and looking for a job at this turning point, I've been thinking of moving to locations such as major cities nationwide and listening to people's comments about them. I think big cities are good for single professionals to meet others like themselves and keep busy and find a network of Muslims.
I've done NYC and los angeles, and was considering staying vs. Chicago or Wash DC. Some pple tell me DC has the BEST community for single Muslims in the US.
Whaddya all think? True or have you liked other places just as much?

DC is still a nice place. There's something for everyone. If you truly want to see what its like, come see for yourself. At least that way, you can say "Been there, done that" :)

mixed reviews here, hmmm. mixed reviews about every place, incl chicago. and i've done ny already.

When I first moved here 3 years ago, I was treated worst by the desi community. They were snobby, elitist, and quite rude. For the first year, almost all of my friends were non-desis.
Things weren't like this in Chicago. When I lived there, if a new person came to town my friends and I would go out of our way to invite them and make them feel welcome. It's the exact opposite here.
Like I said before, almost all of my friends are people who transplanted here from somewhere else. If you do come out here, that group's most likely your best bet to start making friends.
In DC, you'll find as others have said: cultural diversity in people, food, religion, and diversity in thought. You will find strong political views and activisim (right wing or left) which makes after work happy hour conversations pretty interesting.
In terms of singles, DC ranks up there in highest concentration of singles in USA. Networking with Muslim professionals isn't too difficult, just depends on your social circle of friends.
