Crimes of Tobacco

Smoking is haram (forbidden), dangerous, poisonous and harmful. Ironically, Selling tobacco is legal.

What is very alarming, however, is that hundreds of thousands who have never lit a cigarette are also killed each year by tobacco. The culprit is passive smoking.

Most smokers know they are destroying their health. However, passive smoking, or secondhand smoking, harms the health of non-smokers. These people did not choose to be exposed to the harmful smoke, yet they will suffer for it.

Much of the harm caused by secondhand smoking actually starts at home. While many people see their homes as the perfect place to smoke, they unwittingly expose their families and children to the poisons carried in the smoke.

----------------------------------- ------------------------------
The Qur'an says:
And do not kill yourselves. (An- Nisaa': 29). The Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) is also reported to have said, ?Whomsoever drinks poison, thereby killing himself, will sip this poison forever in the Hell-Fire.?

Tobacco now kills some 6 million people each year.
This death toll could double to reach 10 million by 2020 if countries do not implement a historic tobacco control pact aimed at curbing tobacco-related deaths and diseases.
