Salaam teachers!
The luddi dance was a success. I had parents who generously helped me accumulate more than enough costumes for the dance and boy did they look adorable. My mom said, "tumne sab bacho ko pakistani bana diya." www2.naseeb.com
I told my girls to wear the fancy peasant skirts and shirts with lots of glitter :) We got little scarves for them. Swear some of them looked totally desi...being hispanic they fit right in!
Thankyou sweethuneygirl for your helpful comments.
Thankyou Mfm157 for sharing your experience. I have 15 students in my class, 10 boys and 5 girls. I tried to show the the basic "clap down, snap up and they just couldn't follow. I wound up doing, "clap, clap, and clap." They found this step alot easier to follow and boy did they get a kick out of it. Hopefully, I'll be able to add maybe 2 more steps to it and they'll be prossionals by mid december (fingers are crossed).
Now, I need 5 lehangas and 10 salwar kameezes. Let's hope I can get my hands on it. I think I should purchase one for myself too; I never really had one.
I actually led a group of 1-3rd grade girls to do a dance on "Lodi" from Veer Zaara. It took long hours of practice on Fridays, but it was well worth it. Luddi is traditionally a punjabi dance done in a cirlce with any kind of move. I know the basic "clap down, snap up" version but its hard to explain it online! :)
