I suppose we are all engineers here. I am curious how many of you are planning to stay in Engineering field for your entire career. Not that I want to be blamed for blasphemy, but there is another world outside of engineering and if we want to become the leaders and executives in our respective industries, we need to think outside of traditional jobs for engineers.

I have learned that you have to diversify your career. Learn as many functions as possible. Having an engineering background is the key though as it provides a perfect platform to excel in any job you chose to have in future. But the million dollar question is: what do you want to be when you grow up?

I felt like I was sleep walking for the last 8 years. I was good in what I did, and Alhamdulillah I have been blessed with opportunities. But I never thought about my career in a way I should have. I think its time to wake up now. I have decided not to be passive about it from this day on. I need to be actively looking for the next best thing. A different experience, and not just different, a CRITICAL experience. I want to be a VP in a major corporation before I am 40. That?s my commitment to myself. I want you to be a witness and hold me responsible if you see me after 10 yrs and I am not there yet.

So talk about where do YOU see yourself in 10 yrs.
