Car-Shopping
Dear Villagers:
As one of my 2008 resolutions is buy get a new car, I hear that the best time to shop for cars to get good deals is Winter (nowadays) and Fall.
I know very little about car-shopping and, as I currently don't own one (a luxury one, that is) I want to upgrade to a luxury vehicle. I am considering Infinity, Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Audi, Saab and Acura.
Which car do you prefer, which model and why? Which car would get the best bang for the buck?
Is it best to buy a spanking-new car or one that already has some mileage on it?
Do you think the best way to go is to finance or lease?
Also, any advice on interest rates/shopping for interest rates, where to purchase a vehicle, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I am also planning on moving to jersey and buying a new car once there.
Considering that it snows quite often in jersey I am personally thinking about Audi A6, BMW 528xi and Merc E320 4matic. All of these are mid sized luxury sedans with all wheel drive which comes handy in snow.
Whether you buy or lease depends on how long you want to keep the care and your driving habits. If you wont drive more than 10K annually leasing is recommended otherwise buy one.
Personally I think you get the best value for money if you buy a certified preowned. automobiles depreciate the most during first 3 years so with a preowned you get the same car without paying too much. Just make sure that you know when they changed the models Audi brought its latest A6 in 2005, BMW in 2004 and Merc in 2003 so don't go for cars older than that.
As far as value for money I think A6 is the best deal and BMW and Merc are neck to neck.
Among the luxury lines you had mentioned as well as your admitted lack of knowledge about car purchasing, I'd suggest that you consider a pre-certified car from one of the direct dealers. Also, while dealers will arrange financing, if you get financing from a credit union, the rates will be lower than the dealer's rates as well as that of banks.
The above mentioned car beats a 3 series hands down and is currently being discounted due to the introduction of the G37...
lease/buy decision depends on how much you plan on driving it...
I would buy a 2005 -2007 model... not brand new.
