buy or sell

I am moving to the Detroit area in August. I am thinking about buying. I will be working downtown so I am thinking about buying in the Grosse Pointes. Any suggestions? I have family in Bloomfield Hills and Troy but I hear that the commute to downtown from these burns can be a pain.

My concern is buying and then having trouble selling in case I end up moving in a couple of years. I welcome any comments on areas I should look into and if I should even consider the Grosse Pointe area.

True, I wouldn't suggest to buy at this time if you have not plans to live in Detroit or Michigan for at least 5 - 7 yrs.

I am originally from chicago and decided to rent, and I am very glad that I did. A lot of my friends who moved to michigan bought and now are having a tough time selling their condos. Most are averaging a loss around 30-40,000. I am not too familar with the gross pointe area. I have heard it is nice but nearly everyone I know is in the northern burbs (troy, royal oak, etc). Not that I am a real estate professional, but if you are only going to be around 2-4 years, I don't think it's a good idea to buy (unless you're planning on holding on to your investment long term).
