Building Relations Between Non Muslims and Muslims - a WOMEN only event...

This seminar presented by Women of Hizb ut Tahrir, will explore two views:

TALK 1
Is Islam oppressive to women?

This talk will examine certain stereotypes related to the Muslim woman. To what extent are the stereotypes true?

TALK 2
Does Islam equate with terrorism?

This talk will explore whether it is justified to say that Islam encourages acts of terrorism. It will examine what has in fact encouraged these deplorable acts, and will also explore some approaches we can adopt, that will contribute more positively to the harmony and cohesion of British society.

It is our hope that this seminar will contribute to positive dialogue between the Muslim and non-Muslim community.

In recent weeks and months, there has been much media coverage regarding Islam and Muslims. Sadly, in the main, it has been negative. Discussion has centered around Islam's perceived backwardness, unequal
treatment of women and it's alleged encouragement of violence. We hope to address these concerns in this seminar.

In fact, we too have concerns. We are concerned that Islam is being inaccurately portrayed, leading to the demonisation of a whole community. We are equally
concerned, that as a result the non-Muslim community is growing increasingly fearful of Islam. Community cohesion and open dialogue have suffered in the face of
sensational media coverage. We want to explore the validity of some of the media claims, with a view to hopefully dispelling fears within the non- Muslim community.

I already know that the answers are 'NO' to both questions! I hope this will be useful to those who don't know that much about Islam though and are actually perplexed by such questions. Thanks for posting Shamina :)

This sounds like such a good idea, but the fact that it's organised by Hizb really puts me off it, TBH.
