A MAN'S INCLINATION IS THE ROOT OF THE TREE OF HIS LIFE.--Hazrat Inayat Khan

Commentary by Hazrat Samuel L. Lewis (Sufi Ahmed Murad Chisti):

Inclination means leaning, and this leaning necessarily takes some direction. If man is dependent upon mind or body, he cannot rise above limitation. Yet his dependency will mark his character and influence his nature and his deeds. All this belongs to the limited
personality, and the root may die when a shock or great pain or catastrophe comes. But when man leans upon God, such events cannot disturb him to the extent of breaking down his spirit. Who depends upon God will be helped by God.
