Although both books are easy to read and understand, in my opinion Behe?s EoE is a tad more technical than is Behe?s DBB, from a molecular genetics standpoint. If you?re trying to decide which book to read first, I suggest exploring DBB first, then EoE. DBB shows what Darwinian evolution can?t do in the restricted case of irreducible complexity, i.e., produce specific biochemical systems that exhibit IC. EoE shows what Darwinian evolution can and can?t do in general.

Now that you mentioned, Colbert's cutting him off reminded me of Behe's cross-examination by the plaintiff's attorneys at the Dover trial. Howdy! Behe ? the Flagellum Man, and now the Malarial Parasite Man! I watched the video of the Colbert show that Behe has linked on his Amazon blog. LOL ? it never occurred to me that Behe, like Darwin, has a beard. It was a good laugh ? thanks for flagging the show. Good thing Behe is tenured. Otherwise, in yet another case of unfair maltreatment of ID proponents, I would have ended up writing letters of appeal to the President of Lehigh University in support of Behe. Since his ideas are quite ground-breaking in biology, I reckon that Darwin and Behe could be comparable in some sense to Newton and Einstein.

The real strength of the book is that it offers a more general framework than the idea of irreducible complexity of some biological functions and that it attempts to mark the edge of evolution based on molecular evidence of just what in the whole wild world of malaria the Darwinian mechanism has accomplished. Evolutionists, for too long, played the big numbers game of unjustified extrapolation: given many, many, many years, mutations, reproductive cycles, and so on, evolution must produce anything and everything. So what did Darwinian mechanisms produce for the malarial parasite and its human host, given the big numbers that evolutionary delight supposedly needs? Nada! If at all, the ?trench warfare? has led to genetic deterioration. I think that it is an enlightening book, and will go a long way in opening up young minds and stimulating critical thought. The graying Darwinists of the present day academic world will likely continue to remain blindfolded.

I have been amazed at lame, negative criticisms of the book, and personal, ad hominem insults against Behe. It seems that some Darwinists have become so intellectually insecure that they are focused primarily on insulting Behe himself rather than attacking the arguments. A sacred Darwinist cow that must be protected from constructive critique? Some of the criticisms are so naive that I felt as if it was a waste of time to read them. Urgh! But more so than the book itself, perhaps it is even more mesmerizing to chase the debate that has unfolded.
