Attorneys


Ok I should post this in Attorneys but I know there are some here. I am looking for some female attorneys (acomplished) to be speakers at the Women's Bar Associatoin Women of Color Comittee anual panal. This is a great event and I recently noticed that they usually do not have much of a representation from Muslim women or women of Muslim heritage. It'd be great to get some leads! Thanks!
(the women have to be attorneys but not currently practicing necessarily)

I know someone who sits on the Boston (or is it MA) Commission Against Discrimination (or something like that -- they're basically the independent gov't commission that addresses complaints of discrimination against employers, landlords, etc...) She's half-Egyptian and, I believe, Muslim.

I can contact her if you'ld like. Just send me details about the event.

No I dont know this person but yes I'd appreciate a contact. I have been uninvolved in the WOCC for a while so when we were brain storming I thought of Sabita Sigh (who we are contacting) but it occured to me that it might be cool to find someone from an islamic back ground.

ok. well, did you try talking to farhana khera, the head of naml? she has a whole slew of contacts for the country, and for massachusetts, and could help tremendously with leads for your 'women of color' thing... do you need her contact info?

Isn't there a lady heading a major muslim organization now? I think Cair maybe? I wonder if she's an attorney

No its someone who is Chinease American. The committe is Women of Color but I just noticed there was not a lot of represenation from women who are muslim or even from pridominatly muslim backgrounds like christians from arab or south asian nations etc... I think a lot of younger women are doing great things but there is not a lot of leadership and mentorship and working in conjunction with other minority women... so I just thought it might be nice to find someone even if not for this event maybe another time.

Who's the one in Patrick's cabinet? Juliet Kayyam? She's Arab but not Muslim. Or is there someone else?

Well accomplished meaning working for a while someone who is in the position to provice advice and experience. For example one of the people we are considering is the first South Asian Judge in New England, another has a position in Duval Patrick's cabinet. We're still fleshing out the topic, this one is going to be women in Government but we have this program every year so I am always looking for candidates. I mean there are many muslim women at big firms but that's not really the point some one with a few years and experience to be in a mentorship position. If you know anyone let me know!
