Yeah, i used to park my car on the street . . . which is why I would think 100 times before ever takin the car out lol. Once you give up your spot, it's an easy 45 minutes to an hour before you find anything else. If I was living there today, I would definitely rent a spot since I was being penny wise/pound foolish before. Nowadays, my only bizness in bayridge involves hitting up the random sheesha shops there now n then :p
Dood, not even that. You can't find a spot on the street to park. And there are barely lots but who wants to pay $10 a day to park when you can just pay the $40 to another gym with their own parking lot and also is perceived better?
No kidding! yeah, parking is a total must in that neighborhood, bro. I learnt that the hard way when my car got side-ended to the point it was barely recognizable by the time I bade farewell to that hood. Still, some fun memories lol.
I live in Bay Ridge now. I have a parking spot in my building so thats not an issue but my gym is in Bensonhurst cuz no gyms in Bay Ridge have parking spots and I live in the residential side of Bay Ridge, away from all that stuff and when the weather is bad, I will not walk to the gym so thats why I choose to drive to my gym and pay more than I would if I lived closer to the business district.
Yeah, I respect that and that's pretty much been my outlook on gyms most of the time as well . . . cheaper, the better ;) Now I figure I work hard from dusk till dawn so no reason not to check out some place that's fancier and more accessible from where I live and work and if I have to pay extra for the convenience, then so be it. Heck, the way I see it if one is willing to splurge like a 100 quid on a random steak dinner at Luger's/Blaire Perrone or at any random lounge on any given day, then what the heck is an extra 65 quid or so per month for something as important as your health and wellbeing ;) And I also know what you mean about the parking problems in the boroughs. I lived in Bayridge for a year or two back in the day and trust me when I say the city doesn't have squat on that place when it comes to the hassles of finding a spot :p
you can be in a gym that cost 500 a month, if you dont use that dang place then your not going to see any results....i can show you results by just doing pushups... All these people care about what gym they go to, its all a waste if you dont use your membership.
For the record though, my NYSC branch and the otehr ones I've been to rarely have waiting times and most people will let you work in anyway so I never found that an issue. And I'm usually in there at peak hours (6-8 pm on weekdays).
Now what can I say to that besides all I wanna do at the gym is go in, do my workout without being bothered or hassled and get the hell out asap. I can still do all that other stuff at my gym as well. Not sure what Equinox has that NYSC doesn't but I guess I'm content with my gym and personally, if I had a closer cheaper gym to me with a parking lot, I'd go there. You know what a bitch parking is in the boroughs so parking is key to me.
Yup distance and close proximity is the main one for me. About the waiting, the way I see it, it wouldn't matter if it was NYSC or Equinox . . . like I said, I have been using corproate gyms for years now and there usually wasn't *any* wait at the ones I happened to use in the past. . . Let's just say the oldtimers there weren't really into hogging the bench press table and Squat racks full time lol. Unfortunately, that's not the case anymore. And like IM said below, some people use these gyms for more than just working out . . . ie to network/socialize/get motivated/inspired yada yada. That's not my main motivation but it certainly is for some people. I think the "extras" you get at some of the higher end gyms like Equinox or Sports Club LA may just be worth it . . . you might not. And that's where you and I get to vote with our respetive checkbooks. Isn't democracy beautuful? ;)
I don't get it. Whats the difference if it were NYSC or Equinox? A gym's a gym. Why would you not use NYSC membership? Distance? You know what I'm getting at. And who cares about what gym has more fit people??? I thought you said above you are annoyed by the waiting time for stations??? );
To each his own . . . I am going more by convenience than anything else. The Equinox locations happen to be very easily accessible from where I work and live and, in the long run, I figure that'll help me a lot more than an NYSC membership which I don't end up using much. And it's not so much I have to wait forever or anything . . . in fact, the crowd seems thinner compared to what I have seen at NYSC and NY Sport and Racket Club. It's just that years of using underutilized/deserted corporate gyms has spoilt me rotten, I guess :p
I'm a member of NYSC and think its fabulous. I pay around $73 a month and people think thats a lot. Equinox costs $150??? Thats a rip off and I would refuse to pay that for a gym, I don't care how fancy it is. Its a gym for crying out loud. Not to mention you said you have to wait forever to use the stations. Thats crazy.
yeah, it's definitely steep . . . but the facilities are quite amazing and the place has an ambiance/perks all their own. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, nonetheless.
