Al 3inoosa--Too Old For Marriage?

It has recently been brought to my attention that there is a growing "problem" in Arab American society, what we Arabs call...al 3inoosa.. or old maid.
What age do you consider a woman an "old maid?" Is there an age limit/stigma attached to men over a certain age for marriage? Should there be?

I am part of an MSN group of Muslim women over the age of 25 who are all single. To some of them, this is a big problem due to the thought that they are 3inoosa...is this true? Is a woman over the age of say...27 too old? Is she less valuable for marriage than a younger woman? Do you think there is a problem with her because she is not married yet? Do you feel 27 is too old? Does age really matter?

Just want some thoughts of the Arab Naseebers out there...

You are never too old. But that's relative and dependant on the community in which you reside.

Maryoom, I completley get that, I didnt want to marry anyone who wasnt arab, and he specefically had to be Egyptian. So if that is what you want, definetly hold out, you would hate to get married to someone you are not so sure of, and then end meeting the "right" guy later on.

Like I said, it is really hard in this country because there are really not that many people to choose from, and ofcourse in some places it is worse than others.

Masrawaya...hayati, you are wise, mashallah. You know, I am not that picky...I am actually really easy going and flexible. I just know what I want and don't want and know I really want to marry an Arab Muslim. I know girls who are amazing, perfect bodies, perfect education, good families, but they are single. These amazing girls feel defeated, old and tossed aside. They have family pressures, which alhamdillallah I don't have, and refuse to bend. They want perfection, but themselves are not perfect, no one is.
I think naseeb is naseeb no matter what age it is at. But it does disgust me to see these older men chasing young girls who just want to use them...inshallah khair!

Where are the guys opinions??

Yeah Maryoom, I have actually heard that alot. The older you get the pickier you actually get. I really do think it is pretty disgusting when 35 year old men are all going after the 21 and 22 year olds...it is very very backward thinking. And yep, they usually get the girls that are desperate to come here, but what type of marriage is that going to be anyway.
To get back to the picky issue, if I can give any advice about this, not that I am an expert or anything, but there is not anyone out there that wont have things we dont like. Everyone will. As long as there are not major things that turn us off, and they have all the "credentials" per say, Evething else can be worked out. Especially obviously if there is good chemistry.
I have seen it happen so many times, where girls or guys have gotten to that stage where they are pretty picky, which they have a right to be ofcourse, but then the littlest thing turns them off, and they dont even try to discuss it with the other party, and just walk away. Give people one chance I say, and that is it. But give them that chance you know? Oik I am rambling now, lol sorry guys!

Masrawaya, I completely agree with you. But the reality is..the older you get, especially being in USA, the harder it is to find someone you are compatible with. I mean, as you get older you realize that you are not as idealistic as you were when you were 21 years old and everything was open for interpretation. At 28 I find myself much more set in my ways, more educated, more steady. I know exactly what I like and don't like and what I want...
To some, this leads to difficulty. Especially since most of the Arab guys I know are single, but looking for that 22 year old fresh faced girl who doesn't have an opinion on anything...ie the girl back home who is dying to come to USA.
What do you think?

I think it is very very stupid for people to even think that a certain age is too old...I say as long as the guy (or the girl) is comfortable with the age difference, theres nothing wrong with it. Especially since it is SOO HARD in the U.S. to actually meet the right person and settle down. It is not like back home when you have a wide pool of people to choose from. So people that will judge a person because they are not married by a certain age are retards...Also, it is not like you rot as you get older or anything. It would actually mean that the person is more mature, and can probably handle the responsabilites of marriage better.
