"AKBAR HYDERABADI" The other day I was speaking to a CC active member Saud Siddiqui in Karachi, when he surprised me by acknowledging that he is not aware of the existence of this great poet from Hyderabad, India.
Akbar Ali Khan, now over 80 years old, residing in a cute village of Oxford, UK, has been writing poetry for over 60 years since his association with the progressive writers and poets like Mujrooh, Saher, Kaifi, Sardar Jaffery and others while studying at J.J. School of Arts in Bombay. He has published many collection of his poetry, Namoo ki aag, Awazoun ka sheher,Qarz maho saal ke, Zarron se sitaroun tak etc. etc. He is a very shy poet who never went after publicity and self projection.
Today I would like to include with this message some couplets from his ghazals. Please let us know your opinion through this connection

Khilaa-ey gul saba ne sow (100) tarah ke
the mitti mein khazaney sow tarah ke
aseer-e-lamha- e-hazir hon laikin
nazar men hein zamaney sow tarah ke
Khadha hon kwahishoun ke pull pe Akbar
hein paani mein khazaaney sow tarah ke

Zindaan-e-subho shaam mein tho bhi hai mein bhi hon
ak gardish-e-madaam mein tho bhi hai mein bhi hon
be fursh oo baam silsila-e-kaeynaath ke
is bey suthoon nizaam mein tho bhi hai mein bhi hon
bey saal oo sin zamaanoun mein pheley hoey hein hum
bey rang oo nasl naam mein tho bhi hai mein bhi hon
is daeymi hisaar se rahey mafar kahan
zarroun ke azdahaam mein tho bhi hai mein bhi hon
sehraon ka sukooth hamaara hi ukx hai
daryaon ke khiraam mein tho bhi hai mein bhi hon
teyrey merey bikharney se hai saara inteshaar
turteeb oo ehtemaam mein tho bhi hai mein bhi hon

Dhundley se kaee ukx ubhartey hein merey saath
aainey mein kutch aur bhi chehrey hein merey saath
tum silsila-e- gham ko merey sehal na jaano
mansoob kai dard ke rishtey hein merey saath
Shamil hai merey ahad mein hur ahad ka ahang
naa deedah zamanoun ke ujaley hein merey saath
ZEHRA NIGAH, A LEADING POETESS FROM PAKISTAN ONCE TOLD ME THAT AKBAR'S TAAZA GHAZALS ARE MUCH BETTER THAN ANY GHAZALS BEING WRITTEN IN PAKISTAN TODAY!! WE ALL SHOULD BE PROUD OF HIM.
