About MedicineBuddha.us
Salaam all, the following is an excerpt from a response I sent to a brother soon to visit town, and I feel that I can open the same up to others of my way: namely, you. :)
I am managing a yoga studio in mid-town which in truth is a Temple of Hot Water, meaning that we preach the chinese way of drinking hot water to anyone and everyone. (Does not interfere with my islamic beliefs, in fact, I am healthier than I've ever been.) People stay here for $20 a night, but this place is no free ride. We get up at 4:00 AM and clean up the place, and then we drive or bike to the home of the teacher (Master Wang) from where we hike up to the highest point in SF - Twin Peaks. It is a 25 minute hike where we carry thermoses of hot water to drink during the daily pre-dawn class up there, and it is the one requirement for staying here. (Those who prove themselves to be solid walkers/morning-people, can stay if they get up at 4 and help clean up, and then do their own morning meditations. So you may have a natural tahajjud setup here, if you choose to agree to a minimum of 50% morning walks. But the Morning Walk roX! I recite a loving adhaan up there, and say my prayers on a wall of stone! I cannot imagine why anyone wouldn't want to do this, once shown..) Our diet is simple and deviod of any meat, milk/cheese, and garlic/onion (for reasons I can explain if asked.) We believe in plant-based food, and provide simple food and teachings within that cost. The url www.MedicineBuddha.us for the place is MedicineBuddha.us, and you're welcome to check it out. (Please bear in mind that the site is basic at present, and will be upgraded.) Link to pics is at the bottom of the page, though we do not have pics of the roof-top zen garden. That is a personal space for those who stay here and their inner-circles.. so it is a privilage to go up there. Sleep under the stars one night, and you'll know why.. :)
This place really is a life-changer akhi. I would recommend it, if you feel inclined to "going to china - seeking knowledge." That is a promise I can make you. YOU WILL LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH AND YOUR BODY THAN YOU MAY CONSIDER POSSIBLE - NOT TO MENTION THINGS YOU CAN DO TO GAIN BETTER HEALTH/LOOSE WEIGHT/IMPROVE YOUR BREATHING, SLEEPING, EATING AND CHI FLOW.
Apart from this, I can tell you that you can learn about Master Wang (I call him Shifu, for teacher, in Mandarin,) at the url: SenSpa.com > Services > SenCenter. That's his picture, and if you click Treatments, that's the cost of any and every one of his sessions. He practices in the temple on Fridays, the day of the all-day tea ceremony.
On Friday's I have been meaning to start the prayer on the roof, with myself or guest ulema leading.. so your coming here might be a portent to the realization of that intention. I am the only muslim at this space, though a young mexican monk here has an oft-visiting friend who's joined a sufi order and received the name Ali. :)
I hope and pray for the best for you Akhi. Allah continue to guide us bir-Rahmah along as-Siraat.

Is it wrong to want others to know about it too?
Just like skydiving.. I dove from 14,200, yet am still unsatisfied about the mere 60 seconds of freefall.. Wouldn't you want to share that heaven with those you were able to? The same is going on here.
You can see for yourself.. There's even a drum circle this Sunday, even though I won't be there. Its on my tribe page at this sanfrancisco.tribe.net
