has added a new journalI read Lahiri's first book, Interpretation of Maladies, and liked it. Heard horrible reviews of The Namesake, but watched the movie.
Her most recent book, Unaccustomed Earth goes back to her first as a collection of short stories. The first story alone is enough to reel you in. What I like about her stories is that they aren't all happy endings. I know, sounds cynical...but her stories are real. First and second generation desis certainly can relate to all the stories. My favorite are the last three stories. They are the only ones that are connected to each other. What I liked was the way she narrated them. Each story narrated by a different character.
All in all, I highly recommend this book...its a quick read...slightly depressing, but a good read!

has added a new journalSo I'm reading Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth" and at first I was not too into it, (like you, khoy) but I kept reading and it is really good!
I totally recommend it. It is set in medieval england and is the story of a monk forced to build a cathedral. It has death, murder, arson, love (not sappy love yet)...
just read past the first 20 pgs and you'll be hooked.
