I'm in my second semester of Biomedical Engineering, and inshallah in the summer of 2009 I shall be working my first co-op term.
Of course the teachers will offer some guidance, but does anyone have any idea where would be a good place to work co-op? I'm in Toronto, Canada if anyone knew of specific places, but otherwise, some general ideas would help.
Hospitals and Manufacturing companies are the big ideas around now, and I know getting into those won't be easy. So that's why I had the idea of trying to get some volunteer or part-time work done over this summer, but I don't know where to start. My only idea would be trying to get an unrelated job at a hospital, and then later on trying to use this experience to try to secure my co-op placement Inshallah.
Can anyone else think of anything?

has added a new journalI suppose we are all engineers here. I am curious how many of you are planning to stay in Engineering field for your entire career. Not that I want to be blamed for blasphemy, but there is another world outside of engineering and if we want to become the leaders and executives in our respective industries, we need to think outside of traditional jobs for engineers.
I have learned that you have to diversify your career. Learn as many functions as possible. Having an engineering background is the key though as it provides a perfect platform to excel in any job you chose to have in future. But the million dollar question is: what do you want to be when you grow up?
I felt like I was sleep walking for the last 8 years. I was good in what I did, and Alhamdulillah I have been blessed with opportunities. But I never thought about my career in a way I should have. I think its time to wake up now. I have decided not to be passive about it from this day on. I need to be actively looking for the next best thing. A different experience, and not just different, a CRITICAL experience. I want to be a VP in a major corporation before I am 40. That?s my commitment to myself. I want you to be a witness and hold me responsible if you see me after 10 yrs and I am not there yet.
So talk about where do YOU see yourself in 10 yrs.

has added a new journalRecently we have developed an Architectural design related Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) business and we are looking to be in touch with people in UK and US, preferably from London, NewYork and LosAngels, who are already into the business OR willing to be involved in the marketing side of the business. We are looking for partners in the UK and the US immediately, preferably with technical background and should have the drive to develop and market the business.
From operational point of view, in each VCCL branch we will only need a phone, a fax and a broadband connection. We will give all of us a VCCL e-mail account (and instructions with screenshots to set it up in MS Outlook) and guidelines to manage the business. Minimum profit margin is 15% of the total cost of the work. Just think you can earn 15% of profit for some administrative work!
