Hi, I'm an associate at MTV's True Life. Right now we are casting for a new episode of True Life focusing on young people and their parents. We are looking for young people, 18-25, who are close with their families, yet their parents don't fully understand their "modern" lifestyle. We want to educate our audiences about people who are dealing with traditional parents and keeping their cultural heritage alive, while growing up in a more modernized American culture.

I would love to speak with you about your personal struggles, and how it has affected you. If you could please message me with your story, I will be in touch.

Thanks,
Jennifer

Hey i think naseeb is a great site, but i think its silly to make a profit out of it. With connection site makes users pay? All of the main ones such as friendsters, myspace..all free. Naseeb wants to connect muslims yet they don't let us meet one another till we pay. That's silly. Unless you are a paying member you cannot go outside your circle of friends..I think they should make it free, so that everybody, poor students included, can enjoy the site.

i think the site started out to help the Muslim community as well as make money, sure they could leverage add revenue in better ways but $5/month isnt' really that much when it comes down to it ...

*In the Name of ALLAH, thGRACIOUS, thMERCIFUL*

sometimes i wish that i had died
or never was born
that i was a fly
why should i try to dry my Eyes?
the Pain won't go: It only subsides
& rushes back in like Australian tides
i disguise It, despise It, run & hide
but inside i'm still a Prisoner; why?

why i'm a Prisoner? why why why?
why are these Tears in my eyes eyes eyes?
i'm in a prison of Lies Lies Lies
why i'm a prisoner? why?

i look in the mirror & hate my face
then look at my skin & hate my race
i hate everything about this place
still i wait, cuz i don't know my fate

i'm still a Prisoner; why why why?
my sentence is for life, why try?
will i be Free when i die, die, die?
i'm earth's Prisoner; why?

i've given everything just to be my Self
i gave my best Health
& lost all my Wealth
now i'm on my face & knees because i need help:
O ALLAH, it's me; please Heaven, not Hell
& will you tell:
why i'm a Prisoner? why why why?
i'm trapped under the Sky Sky Sky
why i'm a Prisoner? why, why why?
i'm earth's Prisoner; why?

i'm earth's Prisoner

In the Name of ALLAH, The GRACIOUS, The MERCIFUL

I felt intrigued and challenged by Peter Schneider?s article (?The New Berlin Wall? 4 December). The crux of the article was the assertion ?Islam needs something like an Enlightenment.? Who could disagree? This necessary ?enlightenment? must be conducted by Muslims on their own initiative & terms.

The Muslim Diaspora spans the World over, and with all the pre-Islamic Customs being instituted alongside Islam, the only common terms Muslims can reach are the Verses, as opposed to interpretations, of the Qur?an (Koran). These Verses were revealed by God through an illiterate Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him), over 1400 years ago, yet they offer a surprisingly relevant take on current issues, including those raised by Schneider:

?There is no compulsion in religion? (Qur?an 2.256).

This Edict can be the basis of Tolerance and Multiculturalism for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Noone can be forced to believe, or, if believing, to practice. Thus all People, and the Doctrines & Practices they espouse, deserve Respect. This Wisdom is afforded not only to Muslims, but all Humanity.

??if anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or to spread mischief in the land, it would be as if he killed all mankind?? (Qur?an 5.33)

This is a clear Injunction against all Murder, a broad umbrella under which ?honor? killings and Terrorism also fall. Though there are a few murderers among the 1+ Billion Muslims, they constitute a minuscule Minority, as do the murderers of all population groups. The point, however, is that these sinful actions, regardless of the actors, are not Islam. All countries have antiquated barbaric customs which its inhabitants, after accepting Islam, may combine with their practice of Islam. They subsequently blindly label these pre-Islamic conventions Shari?ah (Divine Legislation); but they are not Shari?ah. They are the ignorant traditions that the Shari?ah was sent to eradicate.

?A Woman came to the Messenger of Allah and said ?My father forced me to marry?. The Messenger gave her the choice of annulment. She said ?I condone my father?s choice (of a husband), but I want to teach women that fathers have no right to use force.?

This anecdote is not a verse of Qur?an. It is a Hadith, an authentic event reported by known Companions of Prophet Muhammad. It is but one example of Islam being the first women?s Liberation movement in history. Islam instituted women?s Suffrage, property Rights, marriage & divorce Rights, travel Rights and more. The first person to accept the Messengership of Muhammad was Khadijah, a Woman. Women even even joined the armies on the battlefield. Most importantly, men and women participated equally in this open-minded awakening.

The advent of Islam was an Enlightenment spanning every continent; some lands were opened through struggle (jihad), many more through invitation (da?wah). Its personalities and events belong to History, rather than Legend, lending a unique practical aspect to its metaphysical .

The Enlightenment Islam needs today is not one of innovation, but of Restoration. Muslims, for the sake of themselves and their neighbors, must leave the Islam of their homelands, and the Islam of the new age, for the Islam of knowledge and humanitarianism, the true Islam of the Qur?an and Muhammad, peace be upon him.

As a native Texan who, after traveling throughout Europe and residing in Australia before accepting Islam at Columbia University in 2004, I testify with certainty that for all the lofty notions of the day, Islam is the true Path to Freedom and Peace.
Peace & Blessings to all,

Daniel Oliver, a/k/a Abdul-Muntaqim

Our LORD! Make us not a Fitna (means of Misguidance) for the Unbelievers, but Forgive us, Our LORD! for YOU Are The EXALTED In MIGHT, The Wise.
