Motivation

By txcanadian

We all go through different phases in life. Sometimes you're on a natural high getting stuff done and other moments you can barely make it out of bed.
When encounter those moments where everything seems to be a struggle, you have a hard time staying motivated and focused. What do you do? How do you motivate yourself to move forward? I guess part of it is the monotony, living through the daily rituals of life without having a clear direction. We all have ambitions and desires but it's the feeling of not being fulfilled that keeps me pacing in circles trying to figure out how do I get myself together and get shit done!

What do you do when you're in this phase?

It's because of the good deeds and actions this world still exists. Let's all strive to do what's good and righteous and within our control.

this world and life has a way of beating most down at some point or other and although many wouldn't want to acknowledge that they too have been there and often lol...reality is few go unscathed. It happens more often than people care to admit or acknowledge generally. we have to survive and yes practicality does sometimes prey heavily eg earning a living, not succumbing to external pressures etc etc ...trying to let other's words and actions not penetrate our hearts /hurt us etc...but it happens - a lot sadly.
Many am sure feel this way but few dare to voice ...as there are always those who will pounce etc loll or just make a person feel worse or be very judgemental etc :)
it is hard, can be very hard at times to keep body and soul together , so to speak. whilst all the standard phrases of it is how many u get up that matters etc etc come to mind, it can take every ounce of strength to keep fighting what seems an uphill battle...but as that link nicely reminded us :) allah(swt) tests us ..and those that are dear to him even more etc (not exact words ofc but the general jist.
Of course certain events/unpleasant situations do change us /scar us...we need to learn to live with those somehow.
is good u go running, but that in itself as u know takes up one small part of what could be a long day :) so yes we need all sorts of tools ie diversionary tactics - small and big. some will work sometimes, sometimes they won't , our challenge is to be innovative too and ofc use our initiative too, whilst trying very hard not to lose heart.
dont over analyse ....that will just drag u down further or keep u at a certain level...just take each moment as it comes, each day as it comes and deal with the here and now with whatever resources come to mind ...and develop ur own personal tool box :) That in itself is always a work in progress loll.

:) believe it or not ..i can and do empathize with all you said/your points :)...
and no you are not rambling....it is not only cathartic but most likely helps others, who may be sitting in background, realizing that they are not alone in the emotions/worries/stresses etc. i got to run....will be back later , if you dont mind my ramblings loll

Thanks all. You guys are the only reason I keep coming back to Naseeb. Your comments are always insightful. One of the reasons I run on an almost daily basis is to get some "me" time. It helps with the stress and gives me a chance to be outside and have a change of scenery.
You are absolutely right about having a toolkit to help us along the way. I know it's about how many times you fall but how many times you get up. I'm not sitting there saying "why me..." like I said it's just a phase I'm going through, it just so happens it's a super long one :)
I need to feed my soul with spirituality, too much dunya can also take it's toll. I've been so absorbed with work, the future, savings, paying bills, dealing with broken relationships that I've lost touch with meaning. Due to certain situations I've also grown bitter and avoid turning to God. I understand and believe in God's wisdom. As Humza Yusuf once said, the meaning of "insaan" which is derived from the root work of "insiya" which means to forget. That is our struggle, to keep reminding ourselves that the ultimate salvage is to be found in God alone.
The thing is I've lost myself along the way, I used to be such a jovial person. I love to laugh and most of all make others laugh but with all that I'm passing through the past while has changed me. I'm trying to find myself again but need to not let it affect everything else. I envy and admire those that take time off or quit their jobs and take off to go find themselves. But it's a fine balance to try and do that while not dropping your responsibilities. We as a community lack such "tool kits". Imagine having a Muslim owned Resort, campground or cabins in the mountains. It gives us a chance to disconnect and be in solitude but within a "safe" environment. Ok, I'll stop here...I'm rambling now :)

lolll ....thanks livein....and u have summed the other element very well too :) i tend to be a bit wordy...love ur conciseness

liveintoday (April 17, 2014 at 9:48am)
Very well put Chiragh. There is no single solution when it comes to dealing with with down time in life. And don't worry about"usual cynics /sarcastic" as their alcohol and drug consumptions have altered their cognitive skills. They can't talk with in the context any more. lol

Chiragh-e-Raah (April 17, 2014 at 7:36am)
here is a short clip - appropriately titled 'dont be sad about this life' youtu.be

of course not everyone's cup of tea ...and am sure there will be the usual cynics /sarcastic etc . remarks loll

Chiragh-e-Raah (April 17, 2014 at 7:31am)
btw Tx...you may or may not be aware of Sheikh Hamza Yusuf... i personally find his many talks etc very helpful /illuminating etc...(he has many on youtube) . He has successfully also setup Zaytuna Institute - MashAllah. you may find that also as an aid /useful diversion.

Chiragh-e-Raah (April 17, 2014 at 4:30am)
nicely elaborated Tx....we are all human, whilst some might put a bravada on face of things, reality is we all at times flounder, stumble etc . That doesn't mean we don't turn to Allah(swt) or pray or have faith etc it merely signifies that we are human and we need some other tools /some toolkit too...to help /support us as we traverse through this life. As u rightly noted....'trust in god, but tie your camel. That sums it up very nicely in my opinion.
Sometimes, it isnt even motivation but just getting through various stages ...which requires diversion ...any kind - small or big. What you have to try to do is break the pattern....if you find yourself spiralling downwards then force yourself to get up, go do something else, think of something else - just get through that momentary lapse which will grow and fester if you dont divert yourself. As livein said..try to avoid medicines unless ofcourse there is a medical need,
Maybe volunteer /help out at a day centre , visit some of these places...or go for a walk , etc.. Am sure u have tried these ...but dont give up. I sometimes, tend to start redecorating for example loll or think of my most favourite film or a funny scene from a cartoon....initially, then i may go to garden and prune a few bushes or mow the lawn...bottom line , anything to get through that phase before it sets solid :) Ofcourse allah(swt) is always there, nothing to stop a person doing Zikhr while doing these other diversionary tactics.

You're welcome txcanadian. If you don't already have a routine of some kind of physical activities then I would advise you to get on it.
Ever since I started yoga I feel increased energy level and less stress. It's really working for me. Find something that works for you and stick to it. You will feel the difference.
Also, Never ever turn to drug (prescription/non-prescription) or alcohol as it gives you temporary relief but makes permanent damage to your mental capabilities.

Thank you Liveintoday. I know that to be at peace is to be closer to God. Life's journey is full of ups and downs. Sometimes we turn to him and sometimes we don't. Sometimes we get bitter because the results of your patience or actions don't always feel like they worked out to your favor. But yes, ultimately we need to turn to God. But there is also that saying "Trust in God but tie your camel". So you can't just sit there and say God will help me. I don't agree, God will help those who help themselves. But sometimes life just gets at you. You become drained and overwhelmed with LIFE. I was looking for comments on what people do to keep going. It is always easier said than done. Though I can't compare what I'm going through vs those caught in a war or suffering from a deadly illness. I feel guilty that I'm not appreciating all that I have (health, a job etc..) But again, I'm just completely drained, my energy is at an all time low. I know it's just a phase and it will pass, hopefully soon.
