cultural norms

By designer1

We are a community full of people unwilling to stand up and challenge backwards cultural norms and family expectations--even when those norms contradict the sunnah. The Prophet pbuh married an older women who was previously married twice. Can you imagine what 'people would say' about such a situation today? He married women who were divorced and widowed, even women with children. I'm so tired of our culture of loving and accepting only parts of people, only the surface. Only the image. You'll love the woman, but not her past, not her children. Not her 'baggage' or history. That's not love. And it sure isn't sunnah.

ofc they didnt....which proves the point of this journal. it would have been amazing if anyone did come forward. talk is talk at the end of the day and sadly many jump to condone or refute etc but very few if any will do anything about it ...

nauk , also apart from possible age issue, i think the point in this journal is as much about divorced/widowed women ie the stigma and associated issues therein

hmmm nauk, older women have been known to marry younger guys....maybe not so much in our community/culture but it happens generally ie in the world
as for 2nd /3rd , you may have a point but i would add outwith our culture /community there is no such thing as being a 2nd or 3rd wife , just because a lady happens to be older doesn't mean she has to be anything but the only wife :P

asalamo alaikum. you note correctly and kudos for voicing, what i am sure many females have felt. However, sadly we live in an increasingly hypocritical society (double standards etc) on top of it being an extremely materialistic one too. The key point you also note is 'culture' which is at time far removed from religion. Bottom line, we just need to keep the faith , no matter how frustrating life gets.
wish you well. take care. Allah Hafiz
